Arts Festival On The Green – An Annual Community Favorite

Muncie Arts and Culture Council and Muncie Symphony Orchestra will host the Festival on the Green on Saturday, June 11, beginning at 5pm on the arts terrace at Ball State University. This is a family friendly event with free admission.

Bring the family and a picnic, and enjoy the music and entertainment on the lawn, or stroll the grounds and browse the antique car show, as well as arts exhibits and vendor booths with works on sale by area artists and information from local arts and culture organizations.

The stage opens at 5:00pm for short vignettes featuring dancing, music, and drama by Muncie arts organizations. There will be performances throughout the festival by Muncie Ballet, Ancient Arts Dance Studio, Cornerstone Dancers, East Central Indiana Youth Symphony, Magic City Music Men, Masterworks Chorale, Muncie Civic Theatre, and more.

Muncie Symphony Orchestra will perform at 7pm with Camille Saint-Saens’ The Carnival of the Animals, featuring live animals. The Carnival of the Animals was a huge hit with the young audience last month and is listening fun for everyone.

The concert will also feature the winner of the Superconductor contest. Vote for your favorite conductor at the festival and help raise money for the Muncie Symphony Orchestra.The winning conductor will get to conduct the symphony at the festival! There will be lots of activities for kids at the festival! They can touch and play real musical instruments at the instrument petting zoo, make their own drum and tambourine with the Muncie Children’s Museum, build something at Minnetrista’s arts and crafts table, or paint pottery at The Artist Within’s table.

Muncie Symphony Orchestra is also sponsoring a Festival on the Green Photo Contest! Send them your favorite festival picture, winner will receive a pair of tickets to the classical concert of the winner’s choice. Some suggestion photo ideas: you and your family enjoying a picnic at Festival on the Green, playing your favorite instrument at the petting zoo, or shopping the various arts and crafts tables!

The pictures can be ANY candid shots you take at the festival! Along with your favorite picture, please send your Name, Email Address, Mailing Address and Phone Number to the Muncie Symphony Orchestra by email at munciesymphonyorchestra [at] gmail.com. The pictures will be posted anonymously, but we need your contact information in case you are the winner! Contest photos will be accepted through Sunday June 19th. Please submit only one picture per person.

The voting will begin Monday June 20th in the form of an online survey, and run until June 26th. MSO will post the link to their Facebook page and the MSO blog so you can vote for your favorite picture. Winner will be announced on Monday, June 27.

Among the artisans exhibiting or selling work at the festival: Stuff From the Bunker Art Studio will feature fused glass jewelry, mosaics, and birdhouses. Jewelry vendors include Jewelry Designed by JC, Noel Keith , Greenmantle Arts and Crafts, Pocketful of Rosies, and Earthtone. Tamarack Studio will feature illustrations, watercolors, and photographs of nature.  Other featured Artisans include: Chicqiela’s Studio Arts – assorted 2D and 3D artwork; Nancy’s Art Gallery – drawings, paintings, and jewelry; Beyond I Can – handcrafted items; Jordan Johnson – photography.

There is free parking; however, due to construction on McKinley between Riverside and University avenues, there is no parking in the drive near the Arts Terrace. Free parking is available in parking garages on McKinley Avenue and at the Student Center.

In the event of rain, the festival will be moved indoors to Ball Gym.
