passageways, a new exhibition of ceramics and acrylic paintings by indianapolis artist erin swanson, will open on may 6 at gallery 308. an opening reception will be held at the gallery from 5 to 8 p.m. admission is free, and light refreshments will be served.
erin swanson is an indianapolis native who began at a young age to experiment with pastels, colored pencils and watercolors. in 1999, after graduating from north central high school, she earned a b.f.a. degree in painting from ball state university. she earned a second bachelor degree in art education from herron art school, and is certified to teach k – 12.
the artist describes passageways as an exhibit that depicts my life journey from a reflective and sensory experience. it is dedicated to her feelings and personal life stories. in this series, many emotions–whimsy, drama, playfulness, melancholy, and wariness–flow between artworks. her personal depictions seek to celebrate and recognize the importance of human emotion as a natural stepping-stone and necessary teacher of life.
