inspiration: oil paintings by margie prim is the exhibit for the month of august at gordy fine art and framing in downtown muncie.
a reception for the artist will be held during the monthly first thursday gallery event on august 5, 2010, from 5 to 8 pm. light refreshments will be served and the public is invited to attend.
prim, an avid plein air painter, is known for serene beautiful subjects delivered with a wild and energetic surface. paintings of prairie creek reservoir and mount summit lake hang next to bouquets of drooping pink tulips, a pineapple fruit arrangement or a fall woods. all are composed of the same dynamic marks for which prim is known; aggressive strokes that meld into quiet repose for the viewer.
a native of oklahoma, prim began taking painting lessons in the 1960’s and has studied with various artists and teachers throughout her career. through active memberships in art associations, such as the minnetrista art guild and the indiana plein air painters, prim honed her skills with a painting knife, blending personal vision and color palette into a modern version of indiana impressionism.
the recipient of numerous awards, including several at both the minnetrista annual and the richmond art museum annual, the artist continues to participate in local and state exhibitions and is one of the featured artists at gordy fine art. her works are included in numerous private collections.
the show will continue through august 30th and may be viewed during normal business hours: monday – friday, 9 am to 5:30 pm, saturday, 9 -3, or by appointment. gordy fine art and framing is located at 224 east main street in downtown muncie. for more information call 765-284-8422 or visit www.gordyframing.com.
