mad men – don betty draper christmas (retro 1960) is the theme for the opening reception and final show at art soul by phoebe gallery, 409 s. walnut street in downtown muncie, in, on december 2nd from 5-9pm. based on the amc series, the gallery is using lots of ads from the era, since the main characters from the series were ad men.
december will be the final month for art and soul by phoebe gallery, which will be closing at the end of the year. the walls of the gallery will be filled with the work of as many of our returning, as well as new artists, that we can fit in. please join us for this final extravaganza.
the featured artist for this show is sean orlosky. once turned down by other art venues in muncie, sean joined the gallery family, and became the lead artist in sales at the gallery, selling one to two paintings per month. also, the work of kay kirby, retired teacher, will have her work featured. she was to be the featured artist in february. due to the gallery’s closing, she was invited to present some of her work in this final show.
the delaware county extension club chorus will be singing christmas carols at 7:30pm. phil dunn will be with us, as usual to play his beautiful music. it would not be the same without our mr. music man.
tanglevine crossing has offered to do the catering for this final show. wine, of course, will be served.
since this is the final show that art soul by phoebe gallery will be having, it is with great honor that i dedicate this show to the memory of a very lovely lady that was a big part of this past year that the gallery was going strong.
marilyn grantham (pictured at left with her husband thurman), went to be with jesus as her husband, thurman grantham so lovingly puts it, just a few weeks ago. thurman grantham, has been an artist and poet, with my gallery almost from the beginning. he has been a featured artist and he attends third thursday poetry slam regularly to share his poetry.
throughout the past months, he has always been accompanied by his wife, marilyn. she became my friend and a great supporter of the gallery and what we were trying to do and accomplish at the gallery in supporting artists and the arts. thurman says that she was always his inspiration for his art and his poetry. on their 30th anniversary, he read a beautiful love poem to her that he had written at the gallery’s third thursday poetry slam, and left the audience with not a dry eye in the house.
we all loved marilyn and will miss her, but her bright spirit lives on. for this reason, we honor her and her memory with this last and final show at the gallery. the hall gallery will be filled with thurman’s art, his book of poetry, which she inspired, as well as photographs of marilyn and thurman.
